The best way to improve your writing skills is to READ a LOT!
Reading The Great Gatsby would probably be more beneficial.
Reading has been shown to actually change your brain activity. It increases your vocabulary, and improves your sentence variety.
I don’t know of any good writers who were not also avid readers.

IF you don’t know how to correct your mistakes , or know that your making them, its not going to help. However taking a class for learning to improve your writing skills will help you more.

Actually, reading widely will improve your writing more than transcribing / typing text/copy. In short, to type/transcribe the text, you must READ the text first.
If one is to write well, one must read well.
By ‘reading well’, I mean confine your reading to those novels that have been subjectively rated as classics. Not all of these novels in the linked lists will appeal to everyone. If this is the case, move on to another book:
