It would help if you share what you know about it first. Since you have done most of the work already, it would save us from having to do the same work all over again. What are the examples that you already have?

Answer by rdenig_male
The simplest answer is to say any piece of music for 12 or less players, in whatever combination. It is a moot point, however, as to whether solo instrumental works are ‘chamber’ music or not.

Answer by del_icious_manager
Chamber music is that written for 2-12 players (music for one solo instrument is ‘instrumental’ music).

Answer by mamianka
The essence of chamber music – regardless of the size of the ensemble – is that there is only ONE player on each and every part. “Two to 12 players” could mean a quartet with 3 people on each part – this is NOT chamber music, bu small ensemble playing. A chamber music group does not have a conductor, but the players all must watch and listen to each other very carefully, and blend, imitate articulation, styles, etc – technically, and jazz group or even a rock band is chamber music, because there is ONE of each instrument playing – the lead guitar and rhythm guitar have entirely different roles, don’t they?

Added – Happy Holidays to the teeny trolls – I am so far the only person who has responded who plays chamber music for a LIVING – and there are 3 people who do not like my definition? Clearly, they have their undies in a bunch about ME – boo hoo . . .

Answer by petr b
Generally, chamber music is for a small handful of instruments, say between two and eighteen (the higher number is a bit arbitrarily chosen).

The best definition I’ve ever hear of chamber music:

Music where there is no doubling of notes between any of the parts.

best regards.
