I bought the car a little while ago, and it says “mp3″ under the CD insert slot, but there is no place to put a cord that goes from my iPod to the car stereo. I don’t know if maybe i had to buy an extra perk to get this feature, but if you can help me out that’d be great.

The MP3 support means, that it can read MP3-CD in the internal drive, burn a CD with MP3 Files and insert it, it should play.
The USB-Connector is an option and not standard.

its either in the glove box or you need to have the cable ran from the back of the radio. Call you local VW dealer and ask them for assistance in hooking it up talk to sales not service
