There’s no telling. It depends what they are listening for. I never heard of a surprise audition song before. Cold readings–from the script, maybe, but cold singing? Usually for auditions, actors are asked to select a song similar in style and range of the songs in the musical–but not from the musical itself. Or they are asked to sing one of the songs from the actual musical–which they must prepare in advance. If you aren’t familiar with any of the music from the play, get a Broadway cast recording and listen to it. Sing along on parts where Friedrich would be singing and make sure you can sing all the notes and passages clearly and on pitch. I doubt that they would spring something like “Climb Every Mountain” on you, but this audition–if you are describing it accurately–seems a bit unusual to me. Do they expect you to sight read from the score? Are you absolutely sure you aren’t supposed to prepare a song to sing before you walk in to audition? I would check with whatever teacher or department that is holding the auditions to be safe!

Don’t go by whatever music is in the movie–it may be different than what was done on stage.
